PELATIHAN PUBLIC SPEAKING BAHASA INGGRIS UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN SPEAKING DAN CONFIDANCE MAHASISWA SMK NEGERI 1 KOTABARU
Abstract
This community service activity aims to improve students' speaking skills and confidence through public speaking training in English. The background to this activity is based on students' low speaking confidence, lack of self-confidence, and limitations in conveying ideas orally. The activity was conducted at SMK Negeri 1 Kotabaru, targeting 11th-grade students. The methods used in this activity included interactive lectures, discussions, practical simulations, and feedback. A practice-based training approach (learning by doing) was implemented so that students could directly develop their speaking skills in various simple contexts, such as self-introductions, expressing opinions, and short presentations. The results of the activity showed significant improvements in several aspects, namely speaking confidence, self-confidence, active participation, and fluency in conveying ideas. Before the training, students tended to be passive, lacked confidence, and experienced difficulty speaking English. After the training, students became more confident, active, and able to convey ideas more fluently and in a structured manner. Thus, public speaking training in English has proven effective in improving students' speaking skills and confidence. This activity is expected to become an alternative, communicative and sustainable learning method for improving students' English language competence
