Publication Ethics Statement

This publication ethics statement is prepared for Seraung: International Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities, published by Borneo Literacy Education Foundation. It is adapted from the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and outlines the ethical code of conduct for the Editor-in-Chief, editorial board members, reviewers, and authors.

Articles published in Seraung: International Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities are an essential part of building a coherent and reliable body of knowledge in the field of social sciences and humanities, and they directly reflect the quality of the authors and their institutions. Therefore, it is important to establish ethical standards of behavior expected of all parties involved in the publication process: authors, journal editors, reviewers, publishers, and the academic community.

The editors of Seraung are committed to ensuring that all procedures are directed solely to facilitate the objective and intellectual handling of manuscripts. Editors and reviewers evaluate submissions without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political affiliation.

Authors’ Responsibilities

  • Ensure that only new and original works are submitted.

  • Must not reproduce work that has been previously published in other journals.

  • Must not submit articles that are under review or being considered by other journals simultaneously.

  • May only publish their work elsewhere after receiving an official rejection from the journal or upon official approval of a withdrawal request.

  • Must promptly inform the Editor-in-Chief or publisher of any inaccuracy in their published work so that corrections (errata) or retractions can be made.

  • Must make a significant contribution to the work and take responsibility for its shortcomings.

Reviewers’ Responsibilities

  • Disclose any conflict of interest before agreeing to review a manuscript.

  • Decline the review if a conflict of interest exists or if the manuscript is outside their area of expertise.

  • Review all manuscripts objectively, fairly, and professionally.

  • Inform the Editor-in-Chief of any suspected ethical violations found during the review process.

  • Ensure the originality of manuscripts and remain alert to potential plagiarism or duplicate publication.

  • Must not discuss the content of manuscripts without permission.

  • Adhere to the allocated time for review; requests for extensions are subject to the Editor-in-Chief’s discretion.

Editorial Board Responsibilities

  • Contribute actively to the development and advancement of the journal.

  • Act as ambassadors of the journal.

  • Continuously support and promote the journal.

  • Review manuscripts assigned to them.

Editor-in-Chief Responsibilities

  • Evaluate manuscripts fairly and solely on their academic merit.

  • Maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and not disclose any information to third parties except those directly involved in the publishing process.

  • Be responsible for deciding which manuscripts to publish and when to publish them.

  • Actively seek feedback from board members, reviewers, and authors to improve the quality, visibility, and reputation of the journal.

  • Provide clear guidelines to prospective authors regarding manuscript submission and publication requirements.

  • Ensure that reviewers selected are competent and qualified to evaluate the manuscript.
